Completion of Land Purchase
Ramayampet, AP, India: June 2008
David Bennala announced that two acres of additional property have been contracted for in Ramayampet where Doulos' St Thomas Model School is located.
This completes a package of 8 acres purchased by Doulos International that will provide a location for a new facility for the school. The present facility is a three story rented building with very little room for the 300 students presently enrolled. The school is approved for teaching K-7 grades now, but there is no room for adding grades 8-10 to complete the school. The rooms for classes presently are very small and the teachers work under severe handicap.
We hope to build a school for twice (at least) the present number of students. Now that the land purchases are complete, we can turn our attention to school design and construction.
Report From the Director of Doulos India
Hyderabad, AP, India: June 20, 2008
David Bennala (Doulos India) called to inform us of the following:
1. His mother is slowly improving. We requested your prayers a few days ago when she was admitted to the hospital with high blood pressure and perhaps a stroke. David asked me to thank you and also request that you continue to pray for her recovery. She may be released from the hospital in a day or so.
2. We have a few children at Toophran among the teenage set who have decided to live with relatives. There is always a turnover among the older children, so this is not strange---sometimes a relative wants them or vice versa. I suggested to David that we make an effort to keep track of kids that have lived with Doulos even if they go to live elsewhere. Our intent is to help them grow to mature adulthood and accept Jesus as the Christ and Lord.
3. On the other side of the coin, we have accepted 23 younger kids, the first of a child care situation we will pursue in Hyderabad itself. These kids are all six and seven years old. Doulos India has purchased some clothes for them and enrolled them in a good quality English medium school. David says they will get a good education there. They are staying in a rented facility in Hyderabad, but David advises me that in less than a year a house will come available where they can live in a suburb near David's apartment.
4. Doulos College is well into its term now, with about 25 students in a one year program for preaching. David Hunter, whom many of you know, will be travelling to Hyderabad in July where he will teach for two weeks at the college. David is a valuable resource for Doulos India--this is his third teaching trip. On weekends he expects to visit and preach at churches, strengthening as many community churches as time will allow. Please pray for David's trip.
5. The land purchase at Ramayampet is making progress. Doulos India paid $2000 down for the remaining two acres needed for the new school facility there (that's the town where St Thomas Model School is). Thanks to a family whose generosity has proven itself in serving the needs of mission over and over, the funds are available for the remaining land purchase. David tells me that we have about 40 days to complete the transaction, but Doulos can save a little money if we can deposit the funds this week and let the bank collect them the normal and slow way instead of our usual fast way (due to arrangements with the bank). So we will deposit the funds this coming week for the land.
6. David has looked at our new website. He commented that the pictures are not as clear as he would like to see. We talked about the problems getting clear pictures on the Internet. In order to have a very clear picture, you have to have one with lots of pixels---but that makes the downloading on each computer's browser much slower. The answer is to have less pixels (hence less resolution) but you do so at the price of clarity. Life has other dilemmas also!
7. Generally all is well in south central India. ------------------
Please remember David and his work (and his mother) in your prayers. We're not kidding about the prayers--many people get into the thoughtless habit of saying "pray for me" but they do not much thinkit makes a difference. When David (and I hope all of us) ask for your prayers,we are very serious and fully believe that God is in control of the growing works in India, Pakistan, US, China and other places. Please pray.
In Christ, Robert Barkley Doulos International
